FULL: Wendall Thomas Seminar 1: 'The Dreaded Second Act'

22.09.2009
9.30am - 5.00pm
This free one-day seminar will offer expert practical structural and character advice on getting from the first to the second act break.
Whether you're writing comedy, horror, drama, or thrillers, the second act is always a challenge. When the most frequent note from development executives and story editors is "second act problems," or "weak second act," how do you tackle this desert of the crucial middle of your story?
The first of two seminars offered by celebrated screenwriting tutor Wendall Thomas, it will give examples of how to interweave and use subplots to advantage, how to maintain a steady movement from dramatic "pluses" to "minuses," and how to move your protagonist realistically through the bulk of his or her arc. Drawing examples from several genres, delegates will have the opportunity to see this process broken step by step.
When: Tuesday 22 September 2009, registration from 9.30am for a prompt start at 10.00am (latecomers may be refused entry); ends 5.00pm
Where: Culture Lab, Newcastle University, Grand Assembly Rooms, King's Walk, NE1 7RU. (Please click here for a map and link to info about transport.)
