Stingers 2010 Commissions Announced

Northern Film & Media is proud to announce the successful applicants to this year's £80,000 Digital Short Film Scheme, Stingers 8. Stingers exists to give new and emerging writers, directors and producers - North East talent - the opportunity to realise their creative ideas and further develop their skills and experiences of filmmaking.
The successful applicants for this year's Stingers are:

Invertebrate - Writer/Director James McAleer, Producer Vita Nova Films
Dystopia -Writer/Director Dave Cave, Producer Kirkwood Media
MINI
Carrot Face - Writer Paul Evans, Director Scott Stevens, Producer Scruff Productions
Walls - Writer/Director Alex Lambert, Producer J6 Films
Cost of Living - Writers Iain Milne and Michael Humphrey, Director Daymon Britton, Producer Pyramid Media
Digital Nation
Compulsion- Writer/Director Andrew McVicar, Producer Third Films
Happy Clapper - Writer/Director Tom Marshall, Producer Vita Nova
There are three separate strands to the Stingers scheme this year:
Mini Stingers 8
Mini Stingers was open to new and emerging writers and directors. Each production will have total budget of £7,500 and the film must be under five minutes. You could apply with a drama, docu-drama, documentary or animation-based projects to this scheme.
Maxi Stingers 8
Maxi Stingers was open to writers who have a track record in the industry and have had at least one commission before. Directors should have a track record of short film making or have a similar experience in another medium (i.e. TV drama, documentary, commercials etc). Each production will have a total budget of £12,500 and be no more than ten minutes long.
Digital Nation (formally Digital Shorts Plus)
Digital Nation scheme is aimed writer/directors who are ready to make the leap to more ambitious cinematic short films. Digital Nation provides the opportunity to join a nationwide talent pool and to participate in an intensive tailored development process designed to hone their script and voice as a filmmaker. At the end of this development process the UK Film Council will choose 12 films over 2 years, each to be made at a budget of £20,000
