North East locations star in new Paul Whitehouse comedy
Friday 22nd January, 2010
Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson have made use of a variety of North East locations for their new BBC comedy, Bellamy’s People – their first TV collaboration in 10 years.
Bellamy’s People follows the experiences of radio host Gary Bellamy as he makes his first foray onto the small screen with a show that attempts to find out what makes the people of the UK tick.
Alongside Whitehouse and Higson, who famously worked together on The Fast Show, Bellamy’s People will also feature the ensemble cast of Rhys Thomas, Lucy Montgomery, Simon Day, Rosie Cavaliero and Felix Dextor.
As Bellamy travels the UK meeting the weird and wonderful people of Great Britain, we will be introduced to characters such as Graham Downes, a 23 stone man who hardly leaves his bed, and sexist painter and decorator Martin Hole.
As well as familiar faces, viewers may recognise various landmarks from the North East. Location Manager Camilla Fox Lansley, based in the region, secured locations such as South Shields sea front, North Shields Fish Quay, Allendale, St Mary’s Island, Grey Street in Newcastle and Gateshead Millennium Bridge for the show.
Paul Whitehouse’s relationship with the North East began in
1993 when the first series of the Fast Show was filmed here.
Following a positive experience, Paul ensured every subsequent series
of the show included location filming in the region.
Bellamy’s People started last night on BBC TWO and you can catch
it on Thursdays at 10pm.
