UK Film Council

The UK Film Council is the Government-backed strategic agency for film in the UK. It aims to stimulate a successful, vibrant film industry and to promote the widest possible enjoyment and understanding of cinema throughout the UK.

The UK Film Council is the lead agency for film in the UK ensuring that the economic, cultural and educational aspects of film are effectively represented at home and abroad.  They invest Government grant-in-aid and National Lottery money in film development and production; training; international development and export promotion; distribution and exhibition; and education.

ONE North East

One North East is the Regional Development Agency (RDA) covering the North East region of England - comprising Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham and the Tees Valley. The agency works to build a vibrant, self-reliant, ambitious and outward looking North East England and to promote the benefits of living, working and doing business in the region.

Skillset

Skillset is the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries (broadcast, film, video, interactive media and photo imaging). Jointly funded by industry and government, its job is to make sure that the UK audio visual industries have the right people, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time, so that the industry remains competitive.

Business Link

Business Link is the first point of contact to help you with any business enquiry including legislation, premises, training, quality or management. They offer a range of services to help businesses whether you are trying to break into new markets, looking to export, seeking help with technology, starting up or expanding. As a broker of advice and support Business Link can link into the local network to find the type of help you need.

Part of the national network of Business Links, the North East is home to a number of regional Business Link offices in County Durham, Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyne & Wear. There are 42 Business Link offices in England.

Screen England

Screen England is a network of nine regional screen agencies who work to promote feature film, television, games and new media.

They aim to nurture and develop talent, create jobs, provide business support, give grants, preserve achives, exhibit films and promote screen culture across the whole of England including London.  Screen England is working with all regional screen agencies to ensure a more joined up and efficient manner, to make sure our industry is fit for purpose in the digital age.

Regional Screen Agencies

The nine Regional Screen Agencies create a clear film strategy for different regions in England. They provide funding for production, screen commissions, cinema exhibition, training, archives and education. We allocate £7.5 million a year to the Regional Screen Agencies.


National Screen Agencies

The three National Screen Agencies are responsible for developing film television and broadcast new media in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.


BAFTA

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts supports, develops and promotes the art forms of the moving image, by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public. With an expert industry membership of nearly 6500 individuals, globally, they focus attention on the highest achievements of films, video games and television programmes shown in the UK each year in order to motivate and inspire those who make them, and to educate and develop the taste of those who watch them.

First Light

First Light Movies fund and inspire the making of short films by young people in the UK, reflecting the diversity of their lives.

They have enabled over 9,000 young people between the ages of five and eighteen to write, act, shoot and produce over 600 films. Working with filmmakers and organisations, First Light Movies covers many topics and genres, and make use of accessible digital film technology.

UK Trade & Investment  

UK Trade & Investment is the Government organisation that supports both companies in the UK doing business internationally and overseas enterprises seeking to set up or expand in the UK. Its role is to help companies realise their international business potential through knowledge transfer, and on-going partnership support. To support its aim to "enhance the competitiveness of companies in the UK through overseas trade and investments; and attract a continuing high level of quality foreign direct investment", UK Trade & Investment offers services to UK businesses that want to grow their business internationally and overseas businesses that want to locate in the UK.

Pact

Pact is the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television. It is the UK trade association that represents and promotes the commercial interests of independent feature film, television, animation and interactive media companies. With headquarters in London, Pact further supports its members with an office in Scotland and regional representation throughout the UK. An effective lobbying organisation, it has regular and constructive dialogues with government, regulators, public agencies and opinion formers on all issues affecting its members and contributes to key public policy debates on the media industry, both in the UK and in Europe.

BFI

The BFI (British Film Institute) promotes understanding and appreciation of Britain's rich film and television heritage and culture. Established in 1933, the BFI runs a range of activities and services including publishing, festivals, film releases and education.

Generator

Generator is recognised as the leading popular music development agency in the UK providing the framework of support where current and emerging talent, existing and new music business and other organisations can easily and regularly access information, skills-building programmes, advice and guidance that allow them to develop long term commercial success.

Codeworks

Established in 2003, Codeworks is a centre for digital innovation based in North East England. They work closely with their primary investor, One NorthEast, to create and/or develop new and existing digital media technology companies based in North East England.

Codeworks’s digital media technologies (DMT) programme focuses on finding and developing pre-commercial new media technologies, concepts and business models with the intention of creating spinouts and/or licensing opportunities.

Their sector development programme manifests itself through thier collaborative networks - Codeworks Connect and Codeworks GameHorizon. These private sector associations facilitate commercial collaboration and provide hands-on support to digital technology and media companies of all sizes.
