Funding

Northern Film & Media invest in projects demonstrating strong creative and commercial impact on the content industries.

You can apply for the TV Fund, Digital and Interactive Fund, Film Fund at any time. Applications are decided at a series of funding panels held regularly throughout the year. Investments will be based on a clear recoupment and profit sharing model.


 

Funding panels will be held on the following dates:

22 September 2010 (deadline for applications: 4 August 2010)

Before proceeding, please first consider whether your proposition might better fit the criteria for our Creative Content Investment Fund open to commercially viable projects across film, TV, games, online and digital media looking for investment in the £50k-250k range.

TV Fund

Our TV Fund supports production from development through to delivery. The emphasis is on production rather than development and we back projects, ideas or companies with clear, commercial aims and IP exploitation potential.

The TV Fund will provide relatively modest investments to increase the commerciality of propositions and render them more attractive to significant further investment.

Examples of applications suitable for this TV Fund include taster tapes, market access and mentoring.

Applications over £3,000 are decided at a series of funding panels throughout the year. Weekly funding panels assess applications under £3,000. To apply to the TV fund click here.


Film fund

Our Film Fund is deliverd using ONE North East and RIFE Lottery Funding, and supports film production from development through to delivery with the emphasis on production rather than development. We focus on projects/ideas/companies with clear, commercial aims and IP exploitation potential.

Examples of applications suitable for this Film Fund include taster tapes, market access and mentoring.

Applications over £3,000 are decided at a series of funding panels throughout the year. Applications under £3,000 will be decided in our weekly funding panel.

Digital and Interactive Fund

Our Digital and Interactive Fund supports companies, projects, ideas and individuals engaged in digital industries including music, games animation and innovative multi platform propositions. We welcome applications at every stage of the process, from production and development through to delivery, with the emphasis on production rather than development. We prioritise projects with clear, commercial aims and IP exploitation potential. It’s a limited fund which will provide relatively modest investments to increase the commerciality of propositions and render them more attractive for further and more significant investment.

Applications over £3,000 are decided at a series of funding panels throughout the year, under £3,000 will be decided in our weekly funding panel.

Market Access and Marketing Activity Funds

The following funds cover all areas of business – TV, film, games, digital media and music

Northern Film & Media can support travel, accommodation and accreditation. You must provide 50% match.

If you have applied before as a company for any of these funds you will not be eligible to apply again.

Applications will be accepted by two deadline dates only: 1 August for all festivals up to and before 30 September 2010. The second application phase is 1 October 2010 to 1 March 2011 for all festivals between 1 October to 31 May 2011.

 


Marketing Access for Individual Festivals

Maximum funding available to individuals/companies: £300 for individual festivals

Market Access funding supports companies and freelancers wishing to attend internationally recognised, established festivals, markets and conferences.

Strategic Market Access

Maximum funding available to individuals/companies: £1500

This fund supports individuals and companies wishing to promote commercially viable content at leading international festivals, markets and conferences.

Marketing Activity

Maximum funding available to individual or companies: £300

Marketing Activity provides support for content producers who need to draw together marketing materials such as show reels and duplications for projects that have the potential to reach a national or international audience.

The North East Familiarisation Fund

The North East Familiarisation Fund is designed to encourage film and TV production companies from outside the North East to consider the region.

We will bring up to four members of your key personnel to the North East for up to two nights to show you that the North East can fulfil your requirements. 

Northern Film & Media will cover the cost of UK travel to the North East. We may be able to accompany your key personnel on a recce of the North East or we will provide a professional local location manager for up to 2 days.  We will provide accommodation and transport.

Capture - Community Documentary Scheme

Capture 2010 is a factual and documentary talent development scheme ran by Northern Film & Media in partnership with Community Channel and Sheffield Doc/Fest.

The scheme provides filmmakers with access to industry professionals, talent spotters, broadcasters, exhibition platforms and some project funding.

This year's commissions are:

1. From Brighton to Iceland (3 mins), Laura Maragoudaki and Taryn Edmonds

2. 55 Seconds (3 mins), Jan Cawood

3. Bless You (3 mins), Yacine Helali

4. The Library in My Mind (10 mins), Charly Conquest and Jamie Hamer

5. Rain Woman (10 mins), Susan Mahal and Kavita Puri

6. Hip Hop is Dead (10 mins), Nick Light

7. Is it ‘cos I’m fat? (27 mins), Andy T Smith
