Northern Film & Media invests in production, creative businesses and talent. Our commercial investments span film, TV, digital media and music.
PRODUCTION
We have backed a wide range of ratings hits including Vera (Brenda Blethyn, David Leon), Inspector George Gently (Martin Shaw, Lee Ingleby) and Joe Maddison’s War (Robson Green, Kevin Whately, Melanie Hill).
From 2010-12, NFM partnered with Northstar Ventures to deliver the £2.4 million Finance for Business – North East Creative Content Fund. The collaboration produced a slate of commercial film and TV investments that were made here in North East England including United (David Tennant, Jack O’Connell, Dougray Scott), Song for Marion (Terence Stamp, Vanessa Redgrave, Gemma Arterton, Christopher Ecclestone), The Liability (Tim Roth, Peter Mullan, Jack O’Connell), The Man Inside (Peter Mullan, David Harewood, Michelle Ryan), One Night in Turin and Interview With a Hitman (Luke Goss). The innovative Fund brought more than £5 million of investment into the North East creative industries received the plaudits of the CBI for its ability to ‘de-risk investment’.
We have also invested in low budget film and alternative distribution. Our current low budget slate includes twisted love story Unconditional (Christian Cooke, Harry McEntire, Madeleine Clark, Melanie Hill) and psychological drama Frank (Con O’Neill, Kellie Shirley, Darren Beaumont).
Productions filming in the North East also have access to our Production Service – a comprehensive locations, crews and facilities resource which is designed to save crews time, money and anxiety.
DEVELOPMENT
We also work with a range of public bodies including ERDF, Creative Skillset, Arts Council England and Local Authorities to deliver growth, develop knowledge and expand networks. We do this in two main ways:
EVENTS: Our regular events enable practitioners to gain business critical information on the latest commercial and creative trends. Featuring media leaders from TV, film and digital media, they also provide essential networking opportunities.
