Northern Film & Media (NFM) is a creative industry development agency that supports the growth of North East's film, TV, digital media and music industries.
Our mission is to 'introduce the talent to the market and to introduce the market to the talent'. We do this by investing in talent and ideas.
FUNDING AND PRODUCTION SUPPORT
NFM has invested/supported productions taking place in the North East including Atonement, Harry Potter, Elizabeth, Goal, Sherlock Holmes, The Liability, Song for Marion, The Man Inside, Inspector George Gently, Vera, United, Joe Maddison’s War, Junior Doctors, Geordie Finishing School for Girls, Tracy Beaker Returns, The Revenge of Alistair Fury, Wire in the Blood, Place of Execution, 55 Degrees North and Bellamy’s People.
INNOVATIVE INVESTMENT
Northern Film & Media worked in partnership with Northstar Ventures to deliver the public-VC £2.4 million Finance for Business - North East Creative Content Fund. The fund brought more than £5 million of investment into the North East's film, TV and digital media industries by matching public and private cash. Key projects included TV drama United, The Liability (Tim Roth, Peter Mullan, Jack O'Connell), Song for Marion (Terence Stamp, Vanessa Redgrave, Gemma Arterton, Christopher Ecclestone) and The Man Inside (Peter Mullan, David Harewood, Michelle Ryan). The co-investment fund was the first public-VC partnership in the creative industries outside of London and has been hailed by the CBI as a shining example of using public cash to ‘de-risk investment in the creative industries’.
TALENT DEVELOPMENT
We fund, design and deliver a range of talent development initiatives across film, TV drama, documentary, comedy, music video, digital media working with industry partners including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Film4, Domino Records, Revolver, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Creative England and Soda Pictures.
Our events bring creative and commercial leaders from film, TV, digital media and music to the North East. Covering TV commissioning, film finance, monetising digital content, screenwriting, international markets, product placement, branded content and much more, we deliver a wide range of must-attend, cost-effective, business critical events.
WHO PAYS FOR THIS?
Northern Film & Media is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) via One North East. Following the decision to axe the Regional Development Agencies and UK Film Council, Northern Film & Media is currently seeking alternative funding from April 2012. Several of region's Local Authorities and cultural bosies have expressed a will to maintain an agency presence in the region and we remain optimistic about the future.
