Creative England partners with NFM on Newcastle crew night
Creative England has teamed with Northern Film & Media to bring its popular crew night to The Living Room in Newcastle on 18 October.
The networking sessions are hosted by Creative England’s Location and Production Services team and are open to production staff, crew and film and TV production companies.
Attendees of the Newcastle event will have the chance to meet with key Creative England and Northern Film & Media staff and learn more about the resources available to them.
Creative England has recently launched two new databases for all English crew and locations outside London to help bolster the one-stop-shop service it offers to production companies, thus helping to boost inward investment in the English regions. It also works with local authorities to develop Film Friendly Partnerships, a way of ensuring the systems and processes are in place to enable hitch free filming for production companies shooting in the regions.
Northern Film & Media is funded by a coalition of local authorities to provide locations, crews and facilities support. Recent TV shows and films made in the North East with support from Northern Film & Media’s Production Service include The Paradise (BBC), Inspector George Gently (BBC), Vera (ITV), Song for Marion (Terence Stamp, Vanessa Redgrave, Gemma Arterton, Christopher Ecclestone) and The Liability (Tim Roth, Jack O’Connell).
The North East date is the ninth in Creative England’s series of crew and facilities gatherings following previous events in Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham, Brighton, Sheffield and Elstree Studios which have attracted more than 1400 attendees. Further events are planned to take place at BVE North in Manchester in November and in London in partnership with Bafta in December.
“The popularity of these events lies in all the different ways they can help people get on and develop their careers. Not only do they offer cross-sector opportunities, they’re also useful for anyone who wants to get noticed and get work,” said Kaye Elliott, Creative England’s head of location and production services.
“Everyone from a production company that’s crewing up to a freelancer who’s looking to find out what’s going on in the industry can come along and network. And of course, they’re also a chance for people to come and find out more about Creative England and the opportunities we’ve got available.”
“This partnership will provide North East production professionals with the opportunity to learn more about the complementary services offered by Creative England and Northern Film & Media,” said John Tulip, Northern Film & Media’s managing director.
“Our shared aim is to deliver joined-up support which boosts the ability of the region to deliver and staff production. The Newcastle event is the perfect opportunity to meet key representatives from both organisations.”
The Newcastle event will be sponsored by Brookson, who offer specialist accountancy services for media and creative freelancers.
Creative England and Northern Film & Media’s teams will be at The Living Room in Newcastle on Thursday, October 18 from 6pm-9pm.
