IDDP Short Film Competition Launch

To celebrate the International Day of Disabled People (IDDP), Disability North and Sage Gateshead are hosting a competition that will showcase a series of short films made by disabled people living in the North-East of England.

The organisers are looking for films made up of 20 to 25 images (photographs, drawings etc), which, when played as a slideshow, will tell a story.

Entrants need only a camera, a home computer with Microsoft PowerPoint and bags of imagination.

Films must address the theme of the festival – "removing barriers”. Those barriers can be physical, sensory, emotional, psychological or the kind of barriers created through stereotyping disability. Other than that there are no restrictions on what kind of films may be submitted so long as the story is well-told, creative and original.

After the closing date all the entries will be posted online put to a public vote. The three most popular films will be screened at the International Day of Disabled People event taking place on Tuesday 18 December 2012 at The Sage, Gateshead and a specially selected jury will decide the winners of the “Best Film” award.

If you are interested in participating but are unsure where to start please visit the competition webpage on the Disability North website for more details or e-mail Sheila at Disability North.

The deadline for submission of entries is Friday 23 November 2012. Please note that there is a £2 administration charge for entries.
